Trees!!! and 1959

TREES!

The tree mover came yesterday and we now have 2 HUGE trees in the front of our house!!!! When I say huge, I don't know what you may be visualizing...but we are talking about trees that are moveable. The trunks are about 7 inches in diameter and the trees are about 24 feet tall - this makes a big impact in curb appeal. The truck and equipment that moved the trees is amazing. The spade digs a hole that is about 5 feet deep and about 70 inches wide - and it does it so quickly and effortlessly. Then, the driver lets go of that dirt and scoops the tree up and deposits it in the hole. Since the size of the spade is the size of the spade - what is moved from one hole fits perfectly into the other hole. This truck was the talk of the neighborhood. 3 different neighbors came over to watch the action and everyone who drove by slowed down to look. It is truly amazing to see.

1959

My mom brought me one of her "journals" - she's always kept a daily journal - really nothing more than what she did that day, what the weather was like, who was sick, what notable things occurred...no emotions - just a record. She brought me 1959 because she had a 3 year old and then had a baby in March, so she thought I could relate or would find it interesting. It is very interesting and I see things that are special to me since my Dad is no longer alive. Things like Dad taking my oldest brother for a walk or to play in the snow or making breakfast so mom could sleep in...

Well, my sister was born on March 24th - there was a piece of paper paper clipped to this day - where dad had timed mom's contractions. So fun to see. Dad wrote the entry that day because mom was in the hospital - my sister weighed 7 pounds and some odd ounces and was 20 inches long. Mom stayed in the hospital 4 days. My sister was "perfect" on the "perfect" 4 hour eating schedule, etc. etc. Flash forward to May 2...my sister had her check-up. She now weighed 10 pounds and was 23 inches - great, now she's as big as PJ was at birth. But, then I read, "Dr. says to start cereal and then vegetables in one week" - WOW! My sister is about 6 weeks old and starting solids. Then I read about how she likes green beans, but really likes peas. This made my jaw drop - my how times have changed!
